School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·      Congratulations to Kassidy Gray whose design was chosen to represent Tennessee as the Youth Art Month Flag at the National Art Education Association Convention this year. Kassidy wins a $1000 prize, and our art department wins supplies. Ian Rainey also won an Honorable Mention for his design. This is the third time that the L&N has won this honor: 2015, 2016 and now 2019!  Kassidy’s winning flag design is shown below.

·      Congrats also to Savannah Bresler (for Drawing), Ayesha Ahmed (for Mixed Media) and Chloe Weaver (for Poetry) who all won Honorable Mentions in the Regional Scholastic Awards this year. The Southeast region represents nine states, including Tennessee.

·      We have exactly 73 yearbooks left before we run out completely. This may seem like a lot, but there are over 200 students who still haven’t purchased theirs, so order yours ASAP to make sure you don’t get left out on distribution day. Go to jostensyearbooks.com to get yours for $70, and make sure to follow @STEMYB on Twitter!

·      Seniors, there will be a mandatory class meeting on Wednesday, February 13th in the commons at 11:45. Please make plans to be in attendance.

·      Congratulations to L&N Ethics Bowl team, Sonaz Jazny, Cade Brown, Reece Brown, Michelle Carrera, and Elijah Skeirik, for their outstanding performance last Saturday in the Tennessee High School Ethics Bowl hosted by the UT’s Department of Philosophy and the Humanities Center. The Gryphons won five consecutive matches, including victories over Bearden, Oak Ridge, and Hardin Valley, to advance to the championship for the fifth year in a row. There, in cases concerning Liver Allocation for transplants and Political Gerrymandering, the decision went to St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School. Special recognition to seniors Cade Brown, for two years of strong competition, and Sonaz Jazny for four fantastic years of representing L&N at this event!

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.  Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you too can become great.
