Flu shot reminder! Students can
receive a flu shot on Monday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m.
in the library. No student will be vaccinated without a
completed, signed and returned consent form. The consent form can be completed
and submitted online at www.knoxcounty.org/health/schoolflu through
this evening (10/19, at 10:00 p.m.). Forms are still available in the office
and if you choose to complete the paper consent form, fill out the form
completely, sign it and return it to the office by this Friday, Oct 20.
Be sure to complete the insurance section of the consent form; insurance
status will not determine whether a child is vaccinated. If you do not have
insurance, mark the “No Insurance” box. If you have insurance, KCHD will bill
your insurance to help support this program. Please note: 1. There is no
cost to you for this vaccination. 2. You will not be billed. 3. You
will not have a co-pay.

is School Unity Day! Come down to the plaza during your lunch time for
Spike Ball, Music, 'Cards of Kindness' table-making cards of kindness for
distribution, Banner table- signing banner for choosing kindness and Unity,
hula hoops, popcorn, lollipops, and information about anti-bullying! Remember
to wear Orange to show our Unity!

This week is National School
Bus Safety Week. Each day we will share with you a bus safety tip, so pay
attention! Today’s tip is: Always
remember to drive safely in school zones. Be sure to wear your seatbelt, follow
all rules of the road and pay close attention to speed limits and zones at your
school and any others you may pass by on the way to school.

10th – 12th
grade Students: We have a chance to
visit the US Naval Academy for a college visit in Annapolis, MD. The USNA Trip is scheduled for Thursday 2
November - Saturday 4 November. Mr. Foy will lead an informational meeting
during Genius Hour, Thursday 19 October
in the middle STEM space for interested sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Any student who wishes to go on the Campus visit, must attend the 19 October
meeting. USNA is an engineering school and is the 5th rated STEM
undergraduate program in the nation. Graduates of the Naval Academy serve as
Officers in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Foy will describe
both Academy life and service as a sea-going officer at the meeting. The
field trip is completely paid for by the Academy; student qualifications for
participation include: an interest in studying engineering, an interest in
serving in the Armed Forces, and students must have "C" or above in
all L&N courses.

SHOP, teacher is PHILIPS, type in the name of a choir student to support
or retype "Philips" in any grade, choose your shipping option (free
to school, fee to home), then shop! Please share with your own family and
friends to help us raise money for our program! Store is open now through

Fountain City Lanes.

Congratulations to the L&N Art Honor Society, who won the
People's Choice Award (and 2nd Place in High School Collaborative) at the Oak
Ridge Street Painting Festival. Thanks to Desiree Dobbins, Savannah and
Josie Bresler, Hila Williford, Ayesha Ahmed, Nina Klein, Destiny Large and
Channing Gentry for your hard work. Their artwork was inspired by a
photograph by Cinna Lockhart of student Kloi Blue. Way to
represent the L&N! See their
award-winning design below. Congratulations also to L&N NAHS
Alumni Kati Ellis and Dagon Uselton who won
first place in the Adult Collaborative category! Proud of them!

Spirit week is coming up and the
themes for the spirit week days are below so make sure to plan ahead, participate,
and have some fun!
o Monday,
October 23rd - Color Wars. Each class
will dress up as their assigned color. Wear as much of your class color as you
can, also a great time to wear your class shirt.
§ Seniors- Yellow
§ Juniors- Green
§ Sophomores- Blue
§ Freshman- Red
o Tuesday,
October 24th – Toga

o Wednesday,
October 25th - Students
will choose a stage of life that they wish to display. Examples could include
baby, teenagers, parents, or grandparents.
o Thursday,
October 26th - Dynamic Duo. This is a day to dress up with friends as
dynamic duos. Examples of this could be chips and salsa, milk and cookies, or
Tom and Jerry.
o Friday,
October 27th - Freaky Friday. Since Friday night is Haunted Station,
students are encouraged to wear character costumes then spend the night at the
Haunted Station.
o All of Spirit Week- Boxes for scarf donations to the
homeless, sponsored by key club, will be decorated. The class with the
best decorated box and most scarves donated gains extra points
for their class. The themes for the boxes are elements:
§ Seniors- Fire
§ Junior- Water
§ Sophomores- Earth
§ Freshmen- Wind

Rules: All costumes and outfits
must follow Knox County Schools’ dress code. No masks may be worn that
completely cover the face. Students who choose to wear full body suits may wear
a full suit—including mask—only during the Pep Rally.
· Yearbooks for
the 2017-18 school year are officially on sale! Pick up an order form from the
office any time or order yours from www.jostensyearbooks.com. The price per
book is $55 now through September 15th. The longer you wait to order yours, the
higher the price goes up, so make sure to order yours as soon as possible
to save up to $25 this school year! Seniors:
you can purchase a yearbook for $50
if you order before Nov 1. Special price does not apply to a customized
order.
Community
& Guidance Ops:

The Teacher Depot needs help
this Saturday, Oct 21, from 7am – 12pm.
Volunteers are needed to assist shoppers (teachers) with supplies and
may be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

The local FBI office is having
a Career Exploration Open House on Thursday,
October 26. Youth age 14-20 can attend (5:30 - 7:30pm) to learn about
this career field and sign up for an Explorer Post with further
activities. Registration is through the
Guidance office because of security checks at the FBI. Come to Guidance by Monday, 10/23/17 if
interested.

Have you ever thought of attending
West Point for your college education? The regional commander for admissions in TN
will be here, Thursday, Oct 19, fro 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. for an informational
meeting.

volunteers to help prepare for the race this Saturday. Contact Nicole
