For Thursday, September 7, 2017 – L-day
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

Ops:
·
You can still contribute to the
Coffee for a Cause effort by the SGA – go to https://www.gofundme.com/coffeeforacause
and pass the link across your networks to help us raise as much as we can for a
high school in Houston affected by Hurricane Harvey!
·
Want to know more about STEM
Scouts? It’s a co-ed branch of the Boy
Scouts that explores careers and projects in STEM. Come find out more Thursday, Sept 7, from
6:30 – 7:30 in our Commons!
·
Shout out to Campbell Maben, who also made the Knoxville Youth Symphony
Orchestra on violin! His name was
inadvertently left off our list of recognitions, but he was in the picture
published. Well done Campbell and all
Gryphon musicians!
·
Join us for a night of reading and
enthusiastic discussion at the L&N STEM Academy's Fall Reading
Night!
o Who's invited? You are! All
students, parents, and staff of the L&N STEM Academy are welcome!
o Where will we be reading? We'll
be using the school Library Media Center and the Commons.
o What does it cost? Nothing.
It's free!
o What should I bring? Bring a
book (or check one out from the school Library Media Center) and
we'll provide the pizza, popcorn, drinks, and door prizes,
including a selection of free books, a $25 McKay's Voucher, and Starbucks
gift cards. We'll have a structured
night of reading (30-minute intervals) with breaks for eating and
socializing...and, yes, prize winning!
· Students –
remember to stay situationally aware around our campus. Lock your vehicles when parked in the
downtown area. There have been reports
of vehicle break-ins in the KMA parking lot (which you should not be using
because they are timed) and a student was approached and followed a distance by
a homeless person walking by
himself. Please make arrangements
to try to always be in a group or at least a pair walking to and from your car
if parked off campus. No need to be
afraid – just pay attention. And report
anything suspicious to Officer Clabo or other school personnel. Stay safe!
· Yearbooks for
the 2017-18 school year are officially on sale! Pick up an order form from the
office any time or order yours from www.jostensyearbooks.com. The price per
book is $55 now through September 15th. The longer you wait to order yours, the
higher the price goes up, so make sure to order yours as soon as possible
to save up to $25 this school year! Seniors:
you can purchase a yearbook for $50
if you order before Nov 1. Special price does not apply to a customized
order.
· Order your class
t-shirt for Spirit week today to support prom! They are on sale during all
lunch periods for $15. Checks and cash are accepted as payment. XL sizes and up
are +$1. Buy one while you still can! We will stop selling Friday, September
22nd.
