School Ops:
·      Today we are administering the PSAT test.  Students received an email yesterday with all details.  As a reminder, the general schedule for the day is:
o   9:30-Lunch:  Testing/Quiet Study Time (in Commons for non-testers)
o   LUNCH:
§  Non-testers/Seniors--1st lunch (12:19-12:46)
§  9th Graders--2nd lunch (12:46-1:06)
§  10th/11th Graders--3rd lunch (1:06-1:41)
o   N3 – 1:41 – 3:03
o   N4 – 3:08 – 4:30

·      Interested in making $20? Come to G006 on Mondays during your lunch period to get your height and weight taken! We'll sign you up to come back and pick up an accelerometer that you will wear for 7 days. An accelerometer is a nifty device that measures your physical activity. After that, you'll bring it back and we'll give you a $20 Walmart gift card! Hope to see you then! Questions? Ask Chelsea clessard@vols.utk.edu or Dr. Bretscher .

·      Gryphons! Spirit Week is here, and with that comes the annual Fall Dance. Saturday, October 28, The Fall Harvest will be held in the commons from 7-10. Tickets are now on sale during all lunches. Tickets for singles are $8, and couples are $14.

·        Congratulations to freshman Kieran Maben for being selected to perform on Double Bass in the regional Junior Clinic Orchestra!  Way to go, Kieran!

·        This is the last week!  Support L&N Choirs by doing some holiday shopping at www.cherrydale.com/LNSKT.  Click SHOP, teacher is PHILIPS, type in the name of a choir student to support or retype "Philips" in any grade, choose your shipping option (free to school, fee to home), then shop!  Please share with your own family and friends to help us raise money for our program!  Store is open now through October 27.  For more information, talk to an L&N Choir student or email katie.philips@knoxschools.org.

·        Spirit week is HERE and the themes for the spirit week days are below so make sure to plan ahead, participate, and have some fun!
o   Wednesday, October 25th - Students will choose a stage of life that they wish to display. Examples could include baby, teenagers, parents, or grandparents.
o   Thursday, October 26th - Dynamic Duo.  This is a day to dress up with friends as dynamic duos. Examples of this could be chips and salsa, milk and cookies, or Tom and Jerry.
o   Friday, October 27th - Freaky Friday.  Since Friday night is Haunted Station, students are encouraged to wear character costumes then spend the night at the Haunted Station.
o   All of Spirit Week- Boxes for scarf donations to the homeless, sponsored by key club, will be decorated. The class with the best decorated box and most scarves donated gains extra points for their class. The themes for the boxes are elements:
§  Seniors- Fire
§  Junior- Water
§  Sophomores- Earth
§  Freshmen- Wind
·      Rules: All costumes and outfits must follow Knox County Schools’ dress code. No masks may be worn that completely cover the face. Students who choose to wear full body suits may wear a full suit—including mask—only during the Pep Rally.

·      Yearbooks for the 2017-18 school year are officially on sale! Pick up an order form from the office any time or order yours from www.jostensyearbooks.com. The price per book is $55 now through September 15th. The longer you wait to order yours, the higher the price goes up, so make sure to order yours as soon as possible to save up to $25 this school year! Seniors:  you can purchase a yearbook for $50 if you order before Nov 1.  Special price does not apply to a customized order.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      These college recruiters will be on campus to talk to you about their programs.  All meetings are in the guidance office at 12:15 unless otherwise noted.  Email lyn.johnson@knoxschools.org to get more information and sign up for any of them:
o   Tues, 10/31 - Austin Peay State University, Clarksville TN

·        The Tennessee Governor's School program offers an intensive learning experience for gifted and talented students during the month of June.  Eleven different subject areas are covered at university campuses around the state.
