School Ops:
·        The L&N Art Honor Society is representing our school at the Oak Ridge Street Painting festival at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge this weekend. We will be there all day, so come by if you're in the area. Judging starts at 4pm. They also have a people's choice award so you can vote for us.

·        Congratulations to September’s Students of the Month:
o   Freshman - Meredith Mincey
o   Sophomore - Gretta Berry
o   Junior - Bryce Lane
o   Senior - Anna Wysmierski
      Teacher-nominated and peer-selected by SGA.  Look for more from SGA in the coming weeks!

·        Spirit week is coming up and the themes for the spirit week days are below so make sure to plan ahead, participate, and have some fun!
o   Monday, October 23rd - Color Wars.  Each class will dress up as their assigned color. Wear as much of your class color as you can, also a great time to wear your class shirt. 
§  Seniors- Yellow 
§  Juniors- Green 
§  Sophomores- Blue 
§  Freshman- Red
o   Tuesday, October 24th – Toga Tuesday
o   Wednesday, October 25th - Students will choose a stage of life that they wish to display. Examples could include baby, teenagers, parents, or grandparents.
o   Thursday, October 26th - Dynamic Duo.  This is a day to dress up with friends as dynamic duos. Examples of this could be chips and salsa, milk and cookies, or Tom and Jerry.
o   Friday, October 27th - Freaky Friday.  Since Friday night is Haunted Station, students are encouraged to wear character costumes then spend the night at the Haunted Station.
o   All of Spirit Week- Boxes for scarf donations to the homeless, sponsored by key club, will be decorated. The class with the best decorated box and most scarves donated gains extra points for their class. The themes for the boxes are elements:
§  Seniors- Fire
§  Junior- Water
§  Sophomores- Earth
§  Freshmen- Wind
·      Rules: All costumes and outfits must follow Knox County Schools’ dress code. No masks may be worn that completely cover the face. Students who choose to wear full body suits may wear a full suit—including mask—only during the Pep Rally.

·      Have you ever thought of attending West Point for your college education?  The regional commander for admissions in TN will be here, Thursday, Oct 19, fro 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. for an informational meeting.

·      Applications are now open for PTSA Student Representatives. If you are interested in serving your school community, please complete the link below by Friday, October 6th.  https://goo.gl/forms/LeigQXxSiT1zhYwk1

·      Flu shot reminder! Students can receive a flu shot on Monday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m. in the library.  No student will be vaccinated without a completed, signed and returned consent form. The consent form can be completed and submitted online at www.knoxcounty.org/health/schoolflu. If you choose to complete the paper consent form, fill out the form completely, sign it and submit it online or return it to the office by this Friday, Oct 6.  
Please be sure to complete the insurance section of the consent form; insurance status will not determine whether a child is vaccinated. If you do not have insurance, mark the “No Insurance” box. If you have insurance, KCHD will bill your insurance to help support this program.  Please note: 1. There is no cost to you for this vaccination. 2. You will not be billed. 3. You will not have a co‐pay.
Blank forms and Spanish forms are also available in the office.

·      Spring 2018 Washington DC Field Trip: Registration has begun for the bi-annual Washington DC field trip to the USA Science and Engineering Festival. Trip includes the festival, national monuments tour, museum visits including Smithsonian, National Mall and more. $400 cost covers transportation, hotel (four persons per room), admissions, misc. fees, and hot breakfast. Students will be responsible for lunch and dinner costs. $100 deposit due October 20th. Registration forms available in the office. ·      Yearbooks for the 2017-18 school year are officially on sale! Pick up an order form from the office any time or order yours from www.jostensyearbooks.com. The price per book is $55 now through September 15th. The longer you wait to order yours, the higher the price goes up, so make sure to order yours as soon as possible to save up to $25 this school year! Seniors:  you can purchase a yearbook for $50 if you order before Nov 1.  Special price does not apply to a customized order.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      These colleges are visiting the L&N soon!  If you’re interested, stop by the guidance office to find out how to get to meet these recruiters at 12:15 on the following dates:
o   Friday 10/6: Univ Alabama (Tuscaloosa)
o   Thur, 10/19: West Point Admissions, 6:30 – 8:00 pm

·      Sophomores and Juniors – Governor’s School for the Arts at MTSU applications are open!  The School for the Arts will be held June 1 – June 24, 2018.  Auditions will be held @ MTSU on Jan 13 & 14th.  You must select your preferred date on the student data form.  There will be a short informational meeting for those interested on Wed., October 18 from 12:25 – 12:45 in the Counseling Center.  Applications must be completed by students and returned to Mr. Sudderth by Oct. 31, 2017.  This is a hard deadline, no exceptions.  For more info, visit http://gsfta.com

·      Maryville College is having an Open House and STEMFest, Saturday, 10/7  Open House 9am-3pm.  Juniors and Seniors can also stay overnight on campus and participate in the STEMFest on Sunday. Register at http://maryvillecollege.edu/meet-maryville

·      Applications are now open for the United States Senate Youth Program. The program offers high school students in their junior or senior years the opportunity to participate in an annual Washington Week event in March, which includes a variety of events that promote a unique understanding of the structure of our national government. The Hearst Foundation also offers selected state finalists a $10,000 undergraduate scholarship. The student application and instructions for applying are available here. The deadline to apply is Oct. 27.
