1-16-19 Student Mission Briefing


GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Wednesday, January 16, 2019 – N-day

School Ops:
·      This morning we are thankful to have a special group of musicians performing and sharing stories of survival from Nazi Germany in World War II.  They are bringing the “violins of hope” performance to our Commons from 10:00 – 11:00.  Some teachers have planned to bring their classes.  Only those students will be allowed to attend.  In order to allow time for the program to run, 1st block will be extended until 11:00 a.m. and 2nd block will start at 11:06 a.m.  Please be respectful and watch where you are going in the morning as the Commons has already been arranged for the performance.

·      Shout out to these talented students for being selected to perform at the ETSBOA regional/state clinics this year.  This is the largest group we’ve ever had selected in one year!

·      Time is running out to purchase a yearbook. The price will go up soon and we're beginning to sell out, so make sure to buy yours from jostensyearbooks.com ASAP to make sure you don't miss out!

·      Interested in joining the Gryphon Tennis Team? Come to our interest meeting on Wednesday, January 16th from 9:00-9:25 in room 205 of the Station. If you are unable to attend but would like information, please email Mr. Blythe at stephen.blythe@knoxschools.org.

·      PROM TICKETS:  The prom committee members will be selling tickets during both lunches everyday except Mondays. Tickets will be single tickets are $45 and couples tickets are $80. Additionally, if students paid their senior dues the cost of a single ticket was included. 

·      Sophomores and Juniors – plan now to attend our free ACT practice test and workshop on Saturday, Feb 23, 8:30 – 1:30.  This is a great chance to practice and get feedback to improve your scores right before the March ACT test administration dates!  More info coming on how to sign up soon.

·      Reading Night!  Mark your calendars: Our next Reading Night is scheduled for Friday, January 25th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. All you need is a book to read--Check one out from our library! We'll alternate between quiet reading time and time to socialize. Equality Club will be hosting the evening and PTSA will be sponsoring the evening, and they'll generously be providing food and raffle prizes. It's sure to be fun!

·      Book Drive! Our Key Club and The Gryphon Coffee Nook are sponsoring a book drive throughout January. Please drop off your books for donation to the office or the STEM Library. Thank you!


Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      Interested in STEM and working with elementary students?  Apply as a mentor in the Gear Up STEM Camp. Eligible mentors can be in grades 9-11 with at least a 2.75 GPA. Receive a stipend, leadership skills, service hours.  The program is 4 separate weeks over the next year (2 in summer, spring break and fall break).  See more at http://bit.ly/GearUpSLM. ·      Seniors come get help to fill out your FAFSA, Thursday, Jan 17, 6:00 – free help!  Deadline for TN Promise applications is Feb 1 – don’t leave money on the table!
