Congratulations!
For the second year in a row, a team of STEM 1 students has won Best in
State for the Verizon Innovative App Challenge! The team consists of Ilana Blumenthal, Zachary Bradley, Riley
Hester, William Hunter, Jacob McDaniel, and Angel Quay. Their app is called "Earthling." Check out their video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z0KS-2sZMI

The swim and dive team will be competing in the
district meet this weekend. The diving team is competing Friday night after
school and the swimmers will be competing all day on Saturday. All competitions
are at the new UT pool. Last year our team finished 7th out of 28 teams and we
hope to do even better this year. No
cost to attend – come out and support our Aquatic Gryphons!

Think you might be interested in a law
enforcement career? The KPD Explorer
post is starting a new class on Feb. 11. They are having orientation meetings
on Monday, January 27th, and Friday January 31st at 6:00 PM. Email Mrs. Ashe for more information.

Interested in writing for the newspaper? The
Gryphon Gazette is now accepting article submissions for its upcoming
edition. If you have a topic you feel passionately about, a news story you want
to make known, or you just love to write, email s050128@student.knoxschools.org.

Do you need advice on student issues but wish to
keep your identity a secret? The Guiding Gryphon will provide anonymous advice
on STEM student daily lives, relationship issues, dealing grades, and other
various tips and tricks. Email darryl.fannon@knoxschools.org
with your question and it will be kept completely anonymous; only Mr. Fannon
will see your name.

Josten’s will be here this today, Jan 23, to
deliver class rings. You must bring any
remaining balance due for your ring before you can pick it up. Any student who wants to order a ring can do
so on Thursday. You need a $50
deposit. Also, any senior who still
needs to order graduation supplies needs to see the rep on Thursday for late
ordering information.

If you have any snow/holiday pictures that you
would like to be featured in the yearbook, please send them to s039689@student.knoschools.org,
along with a quote about your winter break, by January 23rd .

The deadline to sign up will be January 31st.

Juniors/Seniors: Buy your prom tickets! Price is $45 for singles/$80 for couples
until Jan 31, then they go up $5 each.
See Mrs. Brown or Ms. Stanish for tickets, questions, or an application
to bring someone from outside the school.
Prom is April 12 at the Square Room.

Join us for book club! Our next meeting is
on Wednesday, February 19th, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Media Center. Because
it will have been a couple months since we last met, we selected several books
to read to keep us busy. Feel free to read one or more of the following
and join us on February 5: Life as We Knew It by Susan Pfeffer, The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Evermore by
Alyson Noel, and The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. Everyone is welcome!

A mini college
fair will be held at STEM on January 30th during 4th block. Sophomores,
juniors, and seniors are encouraged to attend. Students will be dismissed
in groups to attend for 30 minute time slots.

SENIORS: A
representative from TN Student Assistance Corporation will be set up in the
Media Center to help you and your parents complete your FAFSA if you have not
already done so. Details on what information students/parents will need
to bring can be found on the College and Career page of STEM's website.
·
Seniors – time
to start filing your FAFSA forms for financial aid for next year. Here are some help sessions scheduled to help
you:

UT College of Engineering (CoE) will host a
series of summer engineering programs during the summer of 2014. All
students are encouraged to apply. Our mission is to provide students who show
an interest in engineering studies an early exposure to and preparation for
scientific study and research. All
applications must be received by their deadlines. For more information, please

Come learn how to crochet/knit or come to share with others
who do on Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30 in the Commons Area. All students and faculty are invited to
attend! Bring a project or just some
yarn and a crochet hook!

Teens for Christ will resume meeting next week, beginning
Jan 21.
