·    Congratulations!  For the second year in a row, a team of STEM 1 students has won Best in State for the Verizon Innovative App Challenge! The team consists of Ilana Blumenthal, Zachary Bradley, Riley Hester, William Hunter, Jacob McDaniel, and Angel Quay. Their app is called "Earthling."  Check out their video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z0KS-2sZMI

·    The swim and dive team will be competing in the district meet this weekend. The diving team is competing Friday night after school and the swimmers will be competing all day on Saturday. All competitions are at the new UT pool. Last year our team finished 7th out of 28 teams and we hope to do even better this year.  No cost to attend – come out and support our Aquatic Gryphons!

·    Think you might be interested in a law enforcement career?  The KPD Explorer post is starting a new class on Feb. 11. They are having orientation meetings on Monday, January 27th, and Friday January 31st at 6:00 PM.  Email Mrs. Ashe for more information.

·    Interested in writing for the newspaper? The Gryphon Gazette is now accepting article submissions for its upcoming edition. If you have a topic you feel passionately about, a news story you want to make known, or you just love to write, email s050128@student.knoxschools.org

·    Do you need advice on student issues but wish to keep your identity a secret? The Guiding Gryphon will provide anonymous advice on STEM student daily lives, relationship issues, dealing grades, and other various tips and tricks. Email darryl.fannon@knoxschools.org with your question and it will be kept completely anonymous; only Mr. Fannon will see your name.

·    If you have any snow/holiday pictures that you would like to be featured in the yearbook, please send them to s039689@student.knoschools.org, along with a quote about your winter break, by January 23rd .

·    Join us for book club!  Our next meeting is on Wednesday, February 19th, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Media Center. Because it will have been a couple months since we last met, we selected several books to read to keep us busy.  Feel free to read one or more of the following and join us on February 5:  Life as We Knew It by Susan Pfeffer, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Evermore by Alyson Noel, and The Hobbit by J.
