Dear L&N STEM Academy Parent or Guardian,
It is hard to believe that this
first semester is about to end! Mid-term
exams will run according to the schedule in the box below; these exams will
help teachers assess where students are in their learning and provide a basis
for planning lessons for spring semester.
The assessments will be weighted according to each teacher’s discretion
so they can impact grades. Please help us stress the importance to your
student of preparing well for these comprehensive tests and then getting sleep,
eating breakfast, and being here on time to take the exams.
Exams are spread out to
reduce stress on students and only “L” day classes are halfway through course
material because of this year’s schedule, so they will only take true midterms
in those classes at this time. Following
the practice of Knox County high schools, students with parental permission may
leave school at 12:30 on the two days of exams, Wednesday, December 17, and
Thursday, December 18. Students may use
the afternoons to get extra tutoring or preparation for the last exams on Thursday
or stay to complete make-up work either afternoon. Please note there are two separate
permissions to sign, one for each date.
You may give permission for only one day, if you choose. The lists are published separately by date to
teachers to excuse students at 12:30. To
afford your child the opportunity to leave early on these two days, you must
complete the permission slips at the bottom of this letter and have your child return them to any teacher no later than Monday, Dec. 15, 2014. If
students choose to leave they must provide their own transportation and they
must leave campus immediately.
Please make advanced arrangements for transportation. Email,
phone and fax dismissal requests will not be permitted. School buses
will run regular schedules at 4:30 both afternoons. Students are NOT permitted to leave campus
and come back to catch the school bus.
The complete testing week schedule is below. Your child is not
required to attend school December 19, unless he/she misses an exam and must make
it up.

Please discuss the information listed below with your
child:
- Students will be reported for “cutting class” if they do not turn in permission slips and do not go to afternoon study hall. Discipline will be handled at the first of next semester.
- Students with early dismissals must leave campus immediately following the 12:30 dismissal. Students must be with a teacher if still on campus.
- Students must remain in class until the end of the class periods even if exams are completed!
- Students may not leave campus and come back to ride the school bus at 4:30 on the 17th or 18th .
- Students must not go to other schools to visit during school hours! They will be cited for trespassing by school security and could possibly be arrested!
We would like to thank all of

year and hope that each one of you has a safe and restful Holiday Season and
