GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Tuesday, January 6, 2015
“L” Day Classes
Students – remember 2nd semester classes are “flipped” so now “L” classes are on Tuesday/Thursday and “N” classes are M/W/F!

School Ops:
·      If you’re up early Tuesday morning, Jan 6, go to NASA tv or NASA.gov/multimedia to watch the launch of the SpaceX rocket carrying our students’ experiment to the International Space Station!  Launch is currently “go” at 6:20 a.m. tomorrow morning from Cape Kennedy!

·      We will be in Advisories for lunch this whole week.  We’ve had to reassign a few advisories so please check the attached list to see where you should go after 2nd period today!

·      Tune into your local PBS TV station at 5:30 this Wednesday, Jan. 7 and again on Feb 3 to watch students from the L&N Scholar’s Bowl Team compete at the 31st annual East TN PBS Scholar’s Bowl!  Go Gryphons!

·      It is flu season and Knoxville is #4 in the country in reported cases of it!  Please – if you have a fever or other symptoms – stay home and FaceTime in to class or just log in to Canvas to check in.  Don’t get your classmates and teachers sick by bringing it to school!

·      Congratulations to Erykah Carter for advancing to the final round of actors who will compete in January for the Bijou Awards.  Erykah is one of 5 young ladies who will compete live at the Bijou Theater on January 16, at 7 PM.  Best of luck to Erykah as she goes into the final round of acting that offers $1000 to the winner and $500 to the school.

·      New club forming - D&D club! Ever wanted to fight mighty dragons? Beat evil necromancers? Want to become the evil necromancer? Join NOW!!!  Starting this week, every Wednesday, from 4:30-5:30.  Campaigns started during Dungeons and Dragons genius hour may be continued, or new campaigns started.  If you desire to join this club, please respond here https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RF39QHG

·      SGA is sponsoring a Winter Formal dance on Saturday, Feb 7, 2015 here at the school.  The theme is Winter Wonderland.  Will be open to all grades, unlike the prom.  Dress will be semi-formal, which means long dresses/gowns for the girls and suits for guys – no tuxedos.  Tickets will be $10/single and $18/couple – on sale soon.

Research Ops:
·      Next ACT test date is February 7th.  The deadline to register is this Friday, January 9th.  Juniors – stop by guidance to get your voucher to pay for your test when you register for free!  Please make sure not to miss this important requirement for college admissions!
