11-26-18 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Monday, November 26, 2018 – M-day
EARLY RELEASE SCHEDULE
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·             Today when we release at 3:30 all students are invited down to the WFP lawn to watch the annual Seniors v Faculty ball game.  This year we have switched from flag football to kickball (faculty are getting older while seniors remain the same age year after year!). Come out and cheer on your favorites and buy some snacks!. Game will be over at 4:25 so bus riders can catch their rides.

·             Our ProjectU group is looking for help with activity ideas.  Please take a minute to complete this survey to share your thoughts:  https://goo.gl/forms/R8i1QglplVWi2XMY2

·             Governors School applications are due to Mr. Sudderth by tomorrow (11/27).  See below for all the options.

·             Congratulations to Abigail Watson and Ethan Anderson who participated in the Freshman Choir and Gretta Berry who sang in the Women’s Choir at the 2018 All East Choir Clinic and Concert.  In addition, Gretta has qualified to sing in the 2019 All State Women’s Choir in Nashville this April.  Way to go minstrel Gryphons!

·           Congratulations to Class of 2019 member Turner Rogers for being awarded the Optimist Club's annual Robert H. Leonard Service to Humanity Award on Friday. Turner represented our school as a high school senior with a consistent and impressive focus on service.

·           Congratulations to our L&N Art students who were juried into the East Tennessee Region Art Exhibition at the Knoxville Museum of Art: Kaizen Johnson (mixed media), Kayla Juhl (printmaking) and Aidyn Parkey (2 drawings). Special congrats to Kayla, who also was awarded an Honorable Mention. This show includes pieces from the entire East Tennessee region, from Chattanooga to the tri-cities to Crossville with representation from public, private and home-schooled students, so it is a huge honor just to get in. The show will be open the day after Thanksgiving through January 13, 2019.

·           The Coffee Nook is back!. Coffee, cappuccinos, teas, cocoa ($1.00-$1.50)
Look for us at the counter in the Commons in the mornings and the first half hour of each block. We only take cash or change so consider purchasing a 10-cup coffee card for $10 so you don't have to remember to have money with you!

·           Upcoming Book Drive in January.  As you prepare for the holidays and think about leading a more organized less cluttered life in 2019, consider setting aside any books you no longer want to donate to the Coffee Nook/Key Club Book Drive in January. We'll happily accept any books you don't need and find homes for them within our own local community support facilities (for all ages). Anything not appropriate for those audiences will be turned in for store credit at McKay's.

·           Holiday Teacher Appreciation To celebrate and thank our teachers this semester (and to keep them caffeinated and happy), our PTSA is collecting K-cups for the faculty and staff of the L&N STEM Academy. Please consider dropping off a box of coffee k-cups in the office between now and Winter Break.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·           A student representative from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, will be in Guidance on Wednesday, November 28, at 12:15pm.
