5-15-19 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Wednesday, May 15, 2019 – N-day
AP testing – AP Language at Holiday Inn and Guidance
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·         Note today’s AP testing is occurring at the Holiday Inn and in the Guidance office, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Students are reminded to be aware of noise levels around the plaza until about 12:45 today.  Be kind to your testing classmates!

·      Students – a note about the new electric scooters available around the downtown area.  If you read the fine print in the App to rent them you will find they are not allowed to be ridden on sidewalks.  Individuals riding on the sidewalks within our campus boundaries will be stopped and asked to leave.  Students are not allowed to rent and leave the scooters parked on our campus.  There is nowhere on campus to legally park them.  When we find them we will be forced to call the company and have them removed from our property.  Wait until after school hours if you intend to rent and ride – and then don’t do it on our campus!

·      You should have received permission slips to leave at half-day on final testing days next week (Tues & Wed, May 21 and 22).  Please be sure to get them signed and returned ASAP.  If you are over 18 we still need a parent’s signature; in your case it is about being informed, not giving permission.  If you need one they are available in the front office.

·      Heads up Thursday, 5/16, is graduation at 3:00 at Thompson Boling Arena.  We will meet L3 and L4 classes in the morning only and dismiss at 12:20.  Students can stay to eat lunch or leave at 12:30.  Buses will run at 4:30.  If you need to ride a bus home you cannot leave and come back on campus. You will stay in the Commons. Make plans now!

·      Looking for a wallet lost on Wednesday at school. It is a men’s black leather will a power orange T on it.  Please turn in to the office if found.

·      Ms. Carter needs volunteers for two different summer camps for this upcoming June and July. We will be hosting an Oak Ridge Computer Science Girls camp for middle school aged girls at the school on Friday June 14th, 9 – 12:30. We will be hosting a Rocket Camp for High Schoolers at the school on Monday – Friday, July 15th – 26th, 9 – 12:30 and also need volunteers. Both of these can be recorded for service hours. Please email Ms. Carter for more information or to volunteer.

·      If you are interested in taking a course in summer school either to recover a credit, improve a grade, or attempt a new course, you will find all information at http://bit.ly/LNSummerInfo. From there you will be able to find the link to registration, pay your summer school fees, and see the course offerings for this year. The offerings are subject to change, so please make sure to double check here before registering.

·      LIBRARY BOOKS WERE DUE MAY 10.  ALL library books are due May 10 for inventory purposes. All fees are expected to be paid by this date as well. Students should have received an email if they have an overdue book or you owe a fine, but if you're wondering, please drop by the library to speak to Ms. Ellis.

·      There will be a cross country interest meeting on May 15th at 8:30 a.m. and 4:40 p.m. in room 214 in the Station. Please pick a time that works best for you! Contact Coach Daugherty for any questions or concerns.
