GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Thursday, May
2, 2019 – L-day
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!
School Ops:
· A reminder students – we know things get a little crazy
with changing schedules due to testing.
This is your reminder that all school rules, including dress code are in
effect. Don’t end your year with ISS or
OSS. Be where you are supposed to be,
doing what you’re supposed to be doing when you are supposed to do it! And drivers we’ve been told they will be
chalking in the parking lot at KMA for the next several weeks – plan accordingly
so you don’t have to go move your car!
· Congratulations to our Tennessee PTA Reflections Awards winners: Kate
Jolly, 1st Place Dance Choreography; Hannah Guess, 1st Place
Visual Art; Hannah Ray, 1st Place Photography; Chloe Weaver,
2nd Place Photography and Circe Whitson, 3rd Place Photography.
Thanks to Hannah Ray for representing us at the award ceremony. Special Congrats
to Kate and both Hannahs, whose work will progress to the National competition!
· Be sure to visit Awaken Coffee to see the Rhythm &
Blooms Guitar Design Contest entries. Both Lauren Thompson and Kassidy Gray
have pieces in the exhibition, which will be up May 1-18. Lauren also represented
the L&N at the opening reception at the Songbird Museum
·
On Monday, May
6, during lunch in the parking lot, UT’s Center for Transportation Research
will provide all STEM students an opportunity to put on the "drunk"
glasses to understand the lack of control one has if they drink and drive, and
students will also get to ride a "slide" to simulate a car
accident. In order to experience the slide, students under the
age of 18 must have parental signature on the waiver form.(see attached or below to download form). See Coach Parker with questions.
· Come join us for an
interest meeting on May 7th at 4:45
in the commons/ library. Gryphon Crew is a coed rowing club under the
heading name of REACH. It is a chance to build relationships,
cardiovascular health, and enjoy a competitive sport on the water.
Coaches Susannah Enkema and James Martinez will teach you the
fundamentals of rowing. They will talk about future plans and the fun and
competitive sport of rowing. They may be investigating the option of
using another highly motivated and qualified coach for next season. Those
attending will have the opportunity to meet members of this year’s Gryphon
Crew. They have grown us as a wonderful novice team this year!
·
For this week, bring in clean, empty prescription
bottles (wash them out so there is no residue, remove labels) with lids to the
office where there will be a collection box.
One of our students is doing a project where they will be filled with
cleaning supplies/solutions and given to the homeless population.
· Sports Physicals
: Will you need a sports physicals for
next school year? On Saturday May 4th
you can get it done for only $10. Physicals are being done by Knoxville
Orthopedic Clinic at Thompson Bowling Arena. For more information go to: http://www.kocortho.com/pre-participation-screenings/
