Time sensitive - Activities/events going on around the L&N March 27 - 28 - get involved!

Thursday, March 27 – Tomorrow night we will have Student-led conferences for the spring semester.  Why should you bring your student to school to talk to them about their grades?  Our teachers and administrators believe that when students take ownership of their learning, it increases the levels they are able to achieve.  Parents are encouraged to be in continuous contact with teachers via email or phone throughout the year.  This evening is the opportunity for you and your student to have a structured conversation in a formal (school) setting.  The environment and structure should set this conversation apart from your normal "how's school?" talk you already have at home.  Your student's Advisory teacher or his/her designee will be there to help you over sticking points or answer questions that arise as you talk.  Students will be asked to sign up during tomorrow's advisory for a 20-minute slot at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, or 7:30.  Please discuss and have your student sign up for the time that works best for your family to come and take part in this leadership-building exercise for your learner.  If you (or they) have obligations and cannot come to school for the conversation, you are strongly encouraged to use the talking guide another time on your own with them.

Friday, March 28 – Our Robotics team, the STEMpunks, will be competing in the Smoky Mtn Regional FIRST Robotics tournament this Thurs – Saturday at the Knoxville Convention Center.  We want to support them as a school, so first, wish team members good luck!  Second, students will have the opportunity to go see an hour of competition during school, but you are invited to go back with them Saturday morning from 9:00 - about 1:00 to see more rounds.  Admission is free.  Third, our PTSA is hosting a robotics social party Friday night from 6:30 - 9:30 at the school.  We'll be grilling out burgers and dogs and having chips, cookie, and drink for about 400 robot kids from across the country and Canada!  We can use help grilling or just being here to help with set up or clean up.  To volunteer or see how you can help, please check out our PTSA facebook page (L&N STEM PTSA) or email gradstu4ever@gmail.com.

PTSA news:  while on the PTSA Facebook page, you will find information for ordering the spring PTSA t-shirt - a vintage replica of the L&N sign hanging on our building!  Order your limited edition t-shirt today!  Several other items are also available for order.  You'll find info at the facebook site.

Plan now to attend our spring PTSA dinner and bingo fundraiser, April 8, at school.  More info on PTSA tab on our webpage or the PTSA Facebook page.  There are also opportunities still to be more active in our PTSA by serving on the board of directors.  Meetings once a month in the evening.   Get active, get involved in a meaningful way in supporting your child's school!  PTSA is a proud supporter of all things Gryphon!
