8-16-17 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Wednesday, August 16, 2017 – N-day
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·      Seniors will turn in laptops for updating today during Advisory (Wednesday) and get them back on Friday.  Juniors will get theirs back tomorrow (Thursday).

·      Sophomores with last names Livingston through Zinser will meet in the STEM Space during 1st and 2nd lunch today for your class meeting.  Attendance will be taken, look for your advisor and have a seat.

·      Everyone needs to plan to be in your Advisory class on Thursday this week – that is when we are passing out your eclipse viewing glasses being provided by the school system.  Don’t miss this – get yours!

·      Everyone’s lunch schedule and Advisory meeting rooms are in the table at the bottom of these announcements.

·      Interested in finding out how to join our championship-winning Swim/Dive team?  There will be an informational meeting for students this Wednesday 8/16/17 at 8:45 in STEM space.  If you cannot make it at 8:45 or need more information contact Dr. Bretscher

·      Students interested in the STEM Bowling Team will meet on Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. in D112 (PE Fitness room).  We will have at least 2 practices each, probably Tuesday and Thursday, so if you already play a sport at STEM this Fall (Golf, Ultimate, Swimming, Diving), or if you have a job after school, you likely will not have the time to participate on the Bowling Team.  Practices will last about 1 and 1/2 hours.  There will be a girls and a boys team.

·      Students, did you know we have a social worker here on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8:30 – 2:30?  She can help you with community resources, shoe and clothing cards, hygiene items, and is just nice to talk to!   Don’t try to handle family problems on your own – reach out for the help that is here.  You can contact her through the front office, or email her directly at Kimberly.stooksbury@knoxschools.org

·      Are you quick on the draw? Do you like jeopardy? Then you might be interested in joining the L&N Science Bowl Team! If so, please complete the following Google form to receive additional information: https://goo.gl/forms/uKHA268S4mLVIccH3.

·      Want to join the L&N STEMpunks robotics team? They’re having an interest meeting August 18th 5:00-7:00 pm in the Commons! You can come and find out more about the team (bring your parents!) before signing up.

·      If you need help with your cafeteria number or your parents need to put money in your account, there is a place to do it online.  It is here.  If you need to apply for free and reduced lunch it is available online, go here.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      Be sure you are checking your schedule on Aspen before each class – your schedule can change even during the day!  We are finishing changes by balancing class sizes.  Stay informed!

Quote of the day from F. Scott Fitzgerald:

I hope you live a life you’re proud of.  If you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.
