School Ops:
·      Tonight, May 4 – come see the Band and Orchestra play at the Knoxville Convention Center beginning at 7:00, or you can head down to Market Square to support Andrew Sarphie as he represents L&N at the CTE Goes Live competition!  Both are sure to be showstoppers!

·      Do you need last–minute help studying for end–of–course exams? Do you need to improve your grades? National Honor Society is hosting tutoring sessions from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the STEM Space on Tuesday, May 8, and Wednesday, May 9. You are welcome to stop by at any time!

·      Congratulations to the L&N STEM Academy Tennis Teams! On Tuesday, both the boys and girls brought home the District 3 Small Schools Championship. This is the third year in a row for the boys and first year in school history for the girls. Best of luck at the individual district tournament this weekend! 

·      BIG shout out to the L&N Choral Ensemble who appeared at their very first TN State Choral Festival last Friday and wowed the judges enough to earn a rating of A- - in their first year, that is awesome!  Well done singers and Mrs. Philips!

·      Congratulations to Harry Channing, senior, for winning the UT Simms Foundation Merit 4-year Scholarship to UTK!  Only one is given and it went to Harry!  Way to represent the L&N!

·      Gryphons! It's that time of the year again, and the general application to join Gryphon Guides for the 2018-19 school year, is now open! Everyone has the chance to apply, even if you are not currently in the club. The application will close May 4th, so be sure to apply soon!  https://goo.gl/forms/LoWgGxIPdMO4wQTz2

·      If you are interested in trying out for the Bowling Team for the 2018-19 season please see Mr. Parker during Genius Hours, or before/after school in the PE room.  Bowling season starts in early August.

·      Are you interested in math? All students who have completed at least 2 math classes and have a current math GPA of 3.25 are welcome to join the school’s chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta, a national math honor society. If you have only completed 1 math class, you can still join as an Associate member. As a member of Mu Alpha Theta, you will have the opportunity to participate in math challenges and competitions. ·      Any boys or girls interested in playing golf next fall contact Mr. Waxmonsky.  The season starts before the first day of school. You can talk to him in person or at mark.waxmonsky@knoxschools.org for information about tryouts.

Community  & Guidance Ops: 
HITES12 is a residential program for rising twelfth grade students focused on engineering with current openings this summer for females.  Girls must be a rising twelfth grade student and hold a “B” average in both math and science to be eligible for application. All applicants must have a minimum ACT math score of 25 (SAT math score of 590).
