12-9-16 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Friday, December 9, 2016 – “N” day
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·      Good luck to our Cyberpatriots, coached by Mr. Colby and Dr. Nelson, as they compete in Round 2 of state rounds tomorrow from 3:00 -9:00.  Watch them post on Twitter through the night!  If you see any team members, wish them well:  Nicholas Duncan, Madeline Phillips, Alex Lambert, George Mitchell, Lucas McConnell, Connor Shields, Jacob McDaniel, Gregory Croisdale, Phoenix Ragsdale, William Bradley, Michael Coile, Hannah Garrett, and Jessica Motto

·      Happy holidays from SGA! Next week, SGA will be delivering candy grams and holiday cards to your Friday advisory! For $1 you can send a candy cane to one of your friends, and for $2 you can send a holiday card! Send both for just $2.50! You can also get a $5 ticket to the Friday Holiday Advisory where we will be providing snacks, drinks, and playing The Polar Express! Come to the commons during lunch to get in on these hot holiday offers!"

·      Hey students! We hear Santa is working on his Nice and Naughty list!  Want to be sure your teacher ends up on his list and has to serve time in Santa’s “naughty cell” in the Commons area on Tuesday, Dec 13?   It’ll cost you – and all the proceeds will go to help our SECME group go on a college tour this spring!  Before school on Friday, Monday, or Tuesday, come to the Commons red brick “jail” area and fill out a naughty list nomination from the “most wanted teachers” posters you’ll see for whom you wish to see in the Cell in the Commons on 12/13.  Reach out to your friends to raise more money and increase the sentence!
      Here’s how it works:
o   To put your teacher in the Naughty Cell in the Commons will cost $1 per minute, up to the length of your class period (up to 80 minutes).
o   For “sentences” of 30 minutes or less, a sub will come to your class while your teacher serves his/her time.  For “sentences” of 31 – 80 minutes, the class will report to the Commons while the teacher serves his/her sentence.
o   Due to space, we have to limit to no more than 3 teachers able to “serve sentence” at any one time.
o   All funds must be contributed by the start of school on Tuesday so the sentence can be verified by administration, who reserve the right to return funds if the sentence cannot be carried out for any reason.
o   You also have the chance to nominate your teacher for the “nice list!”  Get on their good side by contributing $1 for every 2 minutes to get out of their sentence!  Teachers will be notified how much was raised to put them in the cell and how much was raised to get them out!

·      Visit the L&N Bookstore for campus gear – it makes great holiday gifts for your family and friends!

·      SGA’s Winter Wonder week is coming next week!  To celebrate the end of the first semester of this year, we’re doing some fun things to help blow off steam as we prepare for Mid-term exams and projects.  The schedule of activities for Winter Wonder week is at the bottom of announcements.

·      Did you know you have only 9 school days left in this semester?  Mid-terms and semester projects are just around the corner!
o   Last day of the semester grading period is Thursday, Dec 22.  Use your Digital Labs to keep up/make up work!
o   You will receive the permission slips to get signed and returned to be able to leave at mid-days on the last two days during Advisory this week.

·      Plan now to attend our Musical Gryphons Winter Concert next Tuesday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Knoxville Convention Center.  Admission is free.  Come and bring your friends!

·      We have a new student club forming for those interested.  The Student Secular Alliance will meet with Mr. Webb in room G006, on Mondays (beginning 12/5), from 8:50 – 9:20 a.m.  This is a student run club that will feature educational presentations and free-thought discussions.

·      Are you interested in math competitions? If you're up for the challenge, Mu Alpha Theta is hosting a math competition on Monday, December 12, at 3:30 PM in Room 207. There is no registration, so all you have to do is show up. It will only take about 45 minutes. There is no cost involved.

·      Hey everybody! Prom committee will be selling single prom tickets in the commons for $40 now through December 21st. This is the lowest price of the year!  Don’t wait, after Winter Break the prices go up!

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      FAFSA Frenzy is coming!  Seniors, have you filled out yours yet?!?

Quote of the day from Henry Fod:

If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from his angle as well as your own.
