L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·      Don’t forget that the PTSA Yankee Candle fundraiser is coming to a close.  All forms and monies collected should be returned to school on Friday, November 10.  Have you sold anything?  Its not too late!

·      Students – you’re invited to come to the Media Center today (Thursday) from 1:00 – 1:30 (bring your lunch if you need to) to hear a presentation by national bat and caving experts on Bat/White Nose Syndrome.  You can also learn about careers in Environmental Science.   Come join us!

·      Special thanks to students and teachers for your participation yesterday in helping Knox County Schools set a new Guinness World Record for the highest number of students participating in a computer programming lesson at one time.  The preliminary count that broke the record at 2:30 yesterday was 1058 students.  That number is expected to climb to over 8000 when all the data is verified.  Our guests in the building were highly complimentary of your professionalism and skills.  Way to represent Gryphons!

·      Are you interested in math? Mu Alpha Theta is hosting Round 1 of the annual Log1 competition this Thursday at 8:45 AM in Room 214 or during Second Lunch of Genius Hour in Room 221. The competition is a 15-question free-response test with no calculator, and it should take about half an hour. The two categories are "Functions" and "Counting and Probability." The three divisions are Mu, for Calculus students, Alpha, for students who have passed Algebra 2 but aren't in Calculus yet, and Theta, for students who haven't completed Algebra 2 yet. If you have any questions, feel free to E-mail s731551@student.knoxschools.org.

·      Swim/Dive Team Results from Sunday:  How ‘bout them Gryphons! STEM 216 – West 148 – Central 63, that’s 2 victorious meets in a row!!

·      Freshmen – you received an email from yearbook sponsor Christina.daugherty@knoxschools.org asking for volunteers to be interviewed for this year’s edition of our yearbook.  Please email her if you’re willing to be in the book!

·      FRUVED Announcement-  Interested in a chance to be one of 25 L&N students to win a $25 gift card? Click on the link below to take a survey about your health before the survey closes. ·      Big congrats to our Running Gryphons!  Both boys and girls teams had a great showing at State Championships over the weekend – Seth Jinks won the Small School Division race for the boys, and as a team they were the state Runner-Up (2nd place!), also earning Coach Christina Daugherty the TSSAA Coaches’ Plaque.  On the girls side Brooke Foster placed 8th and Deja Griffin placed 15th.  Way to go Gryphons!

·      Also shout out to our robotics team, the L&N STEMpunks finished 2nd at the Battle for the Bluegrass robotics matchup in Kentucky.  What a great pre-season warm up – get used to winning team!!

·      All students who wish to enter our L&N National History Day competition are invited to do so.  It is not necessary to do this as part of a class project.  You may compete just for the love of history and the love of competition!  As always, follow exact directions on NHD website, and bring Process Paper, Annotated Bibliography, and your project to the competition in the Commons--9:30, Monday, Nov 20.  Please email Mrs. Robbins or Ms. Stanish if you plan to compete (other than as part of a class) so we can plan exhibit space for you.  Remember, you may compete as an individual or a group (maximum five people).  Questions?  Email Mrs. Robbins or Ms. Stanish.
