Gryphon Announcements for 5/1/14


GRYPHON ANNOUNCEMENTS
For Thursday, May 1, 2014
 “L” Day

·      Heads up students who park in the small lot on the corner of WFP Drive & Blackstock – today (Thursday) there is a big event going on at the Foundry at lunch.  They’re asking us to use the big Blackstock lot only – you will not be able to park in the small lot on the corner on Thursday, May 1.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you for your cooperation!

·      Today is first testing day.  Schedule is a little different.  1st period will go from 9:30 – 11:27.  No Advisory.  See the testing reminders at the bottom of announcements for where to report.  This is your chance to show off what you know – do your best!

·      Congratulations to the L&N Junior Classical League who placed 5th overall in their division at the Tennessee Junior Classical League Convention in their first year of attendance! 

·      As we are entering the heavy testing season, please note that except in cases of emergency the guidance office will be closed to students until May 9.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to answering your questions and meeting your needs at the earliest opportunity after this date.

·      Congrats to all the SGA candidates for well-run campaigns.  More congrats to all the office winners!  We expect great things from you!

Gryphon Announcements for 4/29/14


GRYPHON ANNOUNCEMENTS
For Tuesday, April 29, 2014
 “L” Day

·      Congratulations to the L&N Junior Classical League who placed 5th overall in their division at the Tennessee Junior Classical League Convention in their first year of attendance! 

·      Lots going on this week – come out and support or wish your classmates luck on:
o   Tuesday – spring music concert, band, orchestra and chorus!  At the Holiday Inn Grand Ballroom at 7:00, no admission cost. Come hear them!
o   Wednesday – we’re hosting the Girls in STEM breakfast at the Foundry (by invitation only); track at the KIL Championship again, and yearbooks will be distributed for everyone on the Verandah during Early Release.  A few will be available to purchase for $70 (cash).
o   Thursday – senior STEM symposium – our seniors will be showcasing their hard work from this year at a formal meeting at the Foundry.

·      SGA ELECTION UPDATE: 
o   Today (Tuesday) is SWAG day for elections.  Candidates will be passing out treats and/or trinkets to remind you to vote for them during lunch today.  Please practice professionalism in accepting from candidates and properly disposing of wrappers, etc.
o   Students in grades 9-11 only will be voting on Wednesday for next year's SGA officers. The link below will take you to a table of links for candidate videos. This table is divided into four pages. The first page is SGA Executive Board candidates (everyone votes on these positions), and the following pages are grade specific-candidates. Please watch the videos (30-60 seconds each) on the first page and the page specific to your grade.  Please take the time to watch the videos and ask your candidates questions over the next couple days. Students will vote during lunch on Wednesday. Click here for the link to videos.

Gryphon Announcements for 4/25/14

For Friday, April 25, 2014
 “L” Day

·      Let’s make today (Friday) STEM PRIDE day.  Students are encouraged to wear your favorite STEM t-shirts or school colors!

·      We need to practice professionalism and leave SGA campaign posters alone.  There have been a couple instances of signs pulled down – this is NOT acceptable.  Please help us out and model the grown up behavior of respecting other people’s property and efforts throughout this campaign.

·      This Friday, 4/25, parents need to use alternate drop off and pick up locations.  Worlds Fair Park Drive will be closed to traffic as they set up for the JDRF Walk this weekend.  Please make plans now!

·      Next Wednesday, April 30, we will distribute yearbooks during the Early Release hour.  There will be a few extra you can purchase on-site for $70 cash.  Plan now and bring your signing pen!

·      Thanks to your overwhelming response to the Reading Festival at World’s Fair Park in May – all the volunteer slots are filled!  Thank you Gryphons!

·      Sports physicals will be available on April 26th at 8:00 a.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena.  These physicals will be good for the 2014-2015 school year. The cost is only $10. Physical forms are available from the L&N STEM athletics website. Please bring a physical form to participate.

·      Help is needed at the Children’s Festival of Reading at the World’s Fair Park on Saturday, May 17.  Volunteers are needed to help the Muse of Knoxville in presenting several activities in the Science Village portion of the event.  You would be helping demonstrate the activities and helping younger children.  Email Mrs. Ellis if interested for information on how to sign up for a shift and select your shirt size for the free t-shirt!
