School Announcements/happenings:
· Catch our
experiment going to the ISS – media coverage on NASA TV all day long, lift off

for live coverage of launch beginning at 5:45.
· Our robotics
team, the L&N STEMpunks, competed this weekend at an invitational in
Kentucky and was even selected for semi-finals! Way to go! They’ll
also be at the upcoming PTSA Fall Festival and in the Veteran’s Day Parade
with a float representing the school. If you’re interested in joining the team,
please contact Ms. Cheng (karen.cheng@knoxschools.org).
· More Gryphons
have been in the news! Several students and our robotics team who attended

· Our athletes
continue to set school records – our first team to qualify for state
championships is our Girls Cross Country,
who placed 3rd in Region 1A-AA yesterday! Laura
Bretscher was 2nd place as an individual, and Brooke Foster was 13th –
placing both of them on the All-region team for Cross Country! Way to go runnin’ Gryphons!!
· Sophomores and
Seniors – Josten’s will be back for last chance deposits today at lunch!

Buy your dance tickets for the “Light the Night”
dance on Saturday, Nov 1, from 7:00 – 10:00 in our Commons. Tickets on sale at lunch everyday, $8 for
single, $14 for couple. ALSO – support your class by buying spirit links at
lunch, they are 25 cents each. All
monies go towards your class graduation fees.
Length of chains will factor into spirit week winning class
competition. Support your class!
· L & N STEM
3rd annual school-wide National History Day competition will be January 30,
2015. It is time to mark your calendar now and begin work on a
project for the topic "Leadership and Legacy in History"
. You are welcome to compete even if your teacher does not require a
project! The website for National
History Day has all the details. See Mrs. Robbins if you have
questions.
Opportunities to be active:
· The
Knoxville Football Club (soccer) is proud to announce the inaugural “Crush 4K”
that will take place on November 8th at Lakeshore Park. The aim of this race is
to provide a great opportunity for our players, parents, friends, and the
running community of Knoxville to support the Knoxville Football Club in their
effort to promote fitness, a healthy lifestyle, and support this non-profit

· Volunteers are
being sought for next spring’s Llama Races to be held again in World’s Fair
Park. Many positions are available and they are seeking volunteers.

Community
happenings:
· An organization
that promotes aviation safety and youth in aviation, the EAA, is hosting a
banquet with an extremely accomplished astronaut and aviator, Robert “Hoot”
Gibson on Saturday, November 15 at noon. He’s
flown the space shuttle 5 times as either crew or commander, raced at Reno, and
had over 300 “traps” – the term for landing on a carrier where the tailhook has
to trap an arresting cable or the plane and pilot go swimming.
