3-27-17 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Monday, March 27, 2017 – “M” day
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!
Early Release Schedule
School Ops:
·      Don’t forget!  Students, parents, and teachers, can give the "gift of life" and participate in our MEDIC blood drive on TODAY, 3/27! Students 16 and over are eligible to participate. If you're 16 and 120 lbs you may donate with parental consent. (Please use the form attached to the mission briefing.) Seventeen year olds who weigh 110 lbs or more may participate as well and ALSO need consent this time. (Please be aware that all students 16 and 17 will need to turn in a parent consent form this time because of a temporary rule change with MEDIC.)   Note: EVERYONE donating blood must have ID with them as well as a list of medications if appropriate.  Giving blood will take more than the 15 minutes indicated by the time slot. The time slot is used to indicate when you should come to sign in with the MEDIC staff. Make sure you share your plans to donate blood with your teacher if you have a scheduled class during this time.   Please encourage your family and friends to contribute during our blood drive. By donating blood, you'll be helping our community, as well as our school, because MEDIC donates money to our school for each pint of blood collected.  Here's the link to sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E4BADA623A20-spring

·      If your Monday class is normally scheduled in the STEM space in the Depot building, please check your class Canvas page or look for an email from your teacher – you will be displaced today (3/27) for the Blood Drive – all day long.

·      Kudos to senior Kieran Phelps for acceptance into the NSLI for Youth program.  This summer he will spend 6 weeks in Morocco studying Arabic.  That makes 2 years in a row the for L&N as last year Riley Hester participated in the same program and went to Moldova to study Russian.  STEM is truly worldwide!

·      Big congratulations to the L&N STEMpunks, our FIRST robotics team for winning the Entrepreneurship Award this weekend out of 48 teams at the Smoky Mountain Regional tournament!  Well done STEMpunks!

·      We’re still looking for that set of gray and black wireless headphones with “cb3” printed on the side.  They went missing out of an Algebra 2 class in the station early Friday afternoon.  If found, please turn in to the office!

·      Freshmen, Class of 2020:  Plan to be at the class social at Jump Jam, March 31, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Cost is $13.  To sign up and pay, there is a waiver form found here. Students must go to this link and then click the “myself” button. Once you click that, parents will put in their information. There is a button on the bottom that says, “add a child”. Click that, and you put in your information as well.   There is also a printable version here.  If possible it is encouraged to pay online because tickets get sold out quickly.  See everyone there! Questions, contact Freshman class president, Juan Benn.

·      Have you heard of STEM Fruved? We are a health-based student organization that focuses on helping students manage their weight and live healthier by focusing on improving dietary intake, increasing physical activity, and improving overall stress management skills. We meet in the STEM space on Monday’s from 3:30-4:30pm. Join us for Zumba on March 27th at 3:45pm in the Memorial Lawn. Snacks will be served!

Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. All proceeds benefit the Great Starts program, a service of the Helen Ross McNabb Center providing integrated substance abuse and mental health services to recovering pregnant and parenting women. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online here. Bring your family and friends and help us give back to our community!
