School Ops:
·      Student drivers – start planning ahead – next Thursday/Friday (March 14/15) Worlds Fair Park Drive will be closed to traffic past the entrance to our parking lot and Blackstock Lot will be closed due to the Bassmasters Tournament which will be having weigh-in at the Knoxville Convention Center and Exhibition hall space in the Holiday Inn.  KPD is expecting 12 – 14,000 visitors through the center and WFP each day!  Plan now for your route to school and parking arrangement (we suggest around the outer edges of the International parking lot).  Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility.

·      There are ONLY FIVE yearbooks left for this school year. Staff and students, this is your absolute LAST CHANCE to grab a copy of your 2018-19 memories and participate in all of the Distribution Day fun. If you don't want to be left out, order yours AS SOON AS POSSIBLE for $80 at jostensyearbooks.com.

·      Shout out to our NHD competitors, who went to UT on Friday and won a place at the state competition in April.  Moving on will be: Reece Brown, 1st place in Individual Performance; Elizabeth Moody, Jaeden Jenkins, Lisha Patel, John Humphrey and Pilar Huerta, 1st place Group Performance; Ian Rainey, 2nd place Individual Exhibit; and Olivia Sharp 2nd place Individual Website.  Congrats to all who entered and represented us so well!   And In further news, Jared Watkins won two different awards – second place for outstanding use of primary sources and second place for outstanding use of Civil War primary and secondary sources. (these awards are monetary awards!) Congratulations, Jared!

·      Our Science Olympiad teams went to ETSU this weekend and took no prisoners!  Congratulations to our Science Olympians for their outstanding performance and finishing 2nd Place this weekend at the ETSU Regional tournament. Every student on both competition teams earned at least one medal, and L&N STEM Academy is heading to the State tournament for the second straight year!  The list of honors is so long it had to go at the bottom of the briefing today – look below.

·      ATTENTION JUNIORS & SENIORS:   The prom committee members are selling tickets during both lunches everyday except Mondays. Tickets will be single tickets are $45 and couples tickets are $80. Additionally if students paid their senior dues the cost of a single ticket was included.  Prom sales will END March 15. There will be NO TICKETS sold at the door. 

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      The Kiwanis Club of Northside Knoxville, Inc. and its associated Student Fund announce the availability of grants based on an individual’s service to the community. These grants are available to any Knox County resident who is or is planning on being enrolled in an accredited institute of higher learning in the coming year, and who has not previously received a scholarship or grant from any Kiwanis-affiliated organization. Submission as a recommendation from a third party is acceptable. Submissions must be made before March 31. Here is the form.

·      Pellissippi State, Magnolia Campus is hosting an open house for their Technology and Business programs (computer, audio production, business management studies). Thursday, March 7, 5:00-7:00pm.

·      University of Alabama, Huntsville representative will be in Guidance at 12:14 on Thursday, March 7.

·      Outlier’s Advantage: ACT Prep Academy will be hosting a Free Mock ACT on Saturday, March 23 at 8:45 a.m. for all Knox County area students. Students will get their results before they leave and will get to keep their tests for their review. Limited seating is available, so students need to pre-register to make sure they have a seat.  Students can sign-up directly through Outlier's Advantage at www.ACTprep.com.    

·      Seniors – remember, your next required TN Promise meeting is Thursday, March 7, 8:00 a.m. in the Commons.  Breakfast will be in the serving area and verandah until 9:00 a.m. that morning for everyone else.
