4-17-19 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Wednesday, April 17, 2019 – N-day
TNReady Testing day
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·         TNReady testing continues today during regularly scheduled English 1 and 2 and US History classes.  Everyone will report to his/her regular class schedule.  Students should be sure your laptops are fully charged especially during these tests.  Thank you for keeping hallways quiet since they will be going on all day in different rooms.

·         Heads up –Thursday is another major testing day.  First block class will be extended to run from 9:30 – 11:30 for us to complete testing.  You will not meet with your regular L1 teacher (testing or not).  See testing rooms and other room assignments for everyone below.

·         Our elevator is still down for repairs.  We have reached out to those we think will be most affected; if you are affected and have not been contacted please notify the front office.

·      Congratulations to Smash Bros Champions Connor Johnson and Beckham Spiller. Seniors & SGA thank all those who came and played!  It was a smashing good time!

·      Congratulations to our Tennessee History Day winners!  Before attending prom on Saturday these students competed in Nashville.  Shout out to Olivia Sharp, for placing first in the State of Tennessee with her website, and Reece Brown placing second with her performance.  They both earned a spot in the national competition in Maryland in June.  We also had nine other participants who represented us very well.
A special "thank you" goes to Mr. Griffin, who sponsored this event in Nashville on Saturday, and then came back to town for prom later that evening!

·      WATE is covering the L&N multiple ways this week!  Check out this posting for a video interview with our robotics team: https://www.wate.com/news/east-tennessee-teens-at-robotics-competition_20190412205447/1921765036.

·      Our musical Gryphons represented us well at the All State event in Nashville last week.  Gretta Berry did very well in the  Women’s Choir, and in instrumental, students earned these recognitions:
§  Marcus Lee: 1st chair, 1st Bassoon – blue band.  He chaired principal bassoon and 1st in the entire state for 11th-12th grade – a first for our school!
§  Connor McGinley: 10th chair, 2nd violin – Symphony Orchestra
§  Campbell Maben: 10th chair, 1st violin – String Orchestra
§  Maddie Maben: 3rd chair, cello – String Orchestra
§  Kieran Maben: 2nd chair, double bass – String Orchestra

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·         Seniors:  continue watching the Scholarship Bulletin on the School Counseling website.  There still are scholarships to apply for, though some with close deadlines.
