School Ops:
·      What a weekend to be a Gryphon – here’s a rundown of all the activities and recognitions earned just this weekend!
o   L&N NAHS won 1st place award in the Dogwood Arts Festival Chalkwalk high school collaborative category.  Special thanks to Ayesha Ahmed for the work that inspired the project!  This same group also won the same award at the Oak Ridge Street Painting Festival, as well as the People’s Choice Award earlier this year.
o   Golfer Madlyn Newman won the “putt” portion of the DriveChipPutt National finals held at Augusta National course over the weekend – she finished 8th in the nation overall!
o   Our Climbing club finished their season by wiping out all the other novice teams at the final meet of 2019.
o   NHS members volunteered at Beardsley Farm community gardens.
o   SGA members who stayed in town participated in an effort to clean up Second Creek along with the City of Knoxville water quality workers.
o   SGA members traveled to the State Conference where Ashley Waycaster won the TASC Member of the Year and Lucy Drinnen won  TASC Above and Beyond Awards.  Chloe Gibson and Reed Freeman brought home the E-Scrapbook award for our chapter; and Jenny Liu took 3rd place in the essay contest.
o   Our Science Olympiad team took their state tournament by storm.  Medal winners were: Josie Bresler & Isabelle Toth – 1st place, Designer Genes; Devon McGinley & Raymond Wysmierski – 1st place, Geologic Mapping; Charles Brush & Raymond Wysmierski – 1st place, Wright Stuff; Charles Brush & Connor Mcginley – 2nd place Boomilever.  Overall team placement still to be determined.

·      Heads up – this Friday, 4/12, we will meet in Advisory classes to go over your testing schedules for the next 2 weeks.  Don’t miss it!

·      April 8-12 Blind Date with a Book!  As testing season approaches, you'll need a good book to help you escape the stress.  Gather up your courage and drop by the L&N STEM Academy Library next week for a chance encounter that could turn into the real thing!

Where have you been all my life? The books will be wrapped so you can't judge them by their covers (it’s what’s inside that counts, right?) and each one will have a classified ad on it describing its perfect reader. Could you possibly be the one?

You'll never know unless you try! Check it out and go on a date. ...don't worry, if the match doesn't work, you can always return the book and try again. It shouldn't surprise you that sometimes it takes a couple tries to find that special connection.   It starts on Monday and will last all week!

·      Congratulations to these students who were recognized at the 68th annual Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair at Thompson Boling Arena:
o   Ashley Butler – project “Effect of Education on Human Empathy” – Jewelry TV “Brilliance” Award, SASEF Certificate of Excellence, SASEF 5th place Senior Division award
o   Kaylin Fleenor – project “To Burn or Not to Burn” – Strata-G  Award, SASEF Honorable Mention, SASEF Certificate of Excellence
