8-12-16 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Friday, August 12, 2016 – “N” day
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·      Congratulations to our student body and faculty!  For the second year in a row we’ve been named to Newsweek’s List of the Top High Schools in the country for Beating the Odds (we’re #426).  See more here http://www.newsweek.com/high-schools/beating-odds-2016

·      There will be a general interest meeting for students to find out more about joining our national award-winning TSA chapter next Wednesday, Aug 17, from 4:45 – 5:30 in room M052.  Questions?  Contact S735626@student.knoxschools.org for more info.  Here are some links to explore for more about TSA as an organization and our chapter in particular:

·      Heads up to drivers and parents – one lane of Worlds Fair Park Drive will be closed next Friday, Aug 19, at dismissal.  You will not be able to wait for students in your usual location.  You should arrange to meet rides either in the parking lot of KMA or down Grand Avenue.

·      Spirit week is October 17 – 21, order your Spirit Week t-shirts this week and next during lunch.  They are $15 until August 19, and then the price will go up!  Order now!  Cash or check payable to “L&N STEM”.

·      Reminder to students coming in after 9:30 with Dual Enrollment, Digital Lab and Blended Learning periods.  Report to the Commons until time for your next class.  You do not need to sign in, just wait until your first scheduled class and report there on time.  For those dismissing (who have returned forms) – you MUST sign out properly through the office.  Failure to do so will result in losing the privilege!

·      Applications to volunteer at the Golden Gryphon Credit Union (a school branch of Y-12 Federal Credit Union) are available at the front office.  Stop by and pick up the information!

·      Students - interested in joining a club or sport? Complete this form and share to share your contact information with club and sport leaders.

·      Dress code – everybody’s shorts/skirts should be longer than your fingertips at your sides.  Girls – no off-shoulder tops and no spaghetti straps showing.  Thank you for your consideration of others in choosing professional dress for school!

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      In-Home Tutoring will be hosting a Free Mock ACT on Saturday, August 27 at 9 a.m. for all Knox County students, at ITT tech. Students will get their results before they leave and will get to keep their tests for their review. Limited seating is available, so students need to pre-register to make sure they have a seat.  This is a great practice opportunity before the September test.  Sign-up directly from their website at  www.KnoxvilleTutor.com

Quote of the day from Oprah Winfrey:

What I know for sure is that if you want to have success, you can’t make success our goal.  The key is not to worry about being successful, but to instead work toward being significant – and the success will naturally follow.
