School Ops:
·      Hey students!  Are you interested in politics?  Do you have questions about running for and serving in our state legislature?  Come to the STEM space (after checking in with your Advisory teacher) TODAY, at 12:20, to meet and hear TN Senator Becky Duncan Massey.  She will speak for about 20 minutes then take questions for another 20.  Come meet and greet!

·         Seniors: We will be having one last Social on Tuesday, May 16. It will be held at a "Party Barn" where there will be lit up basketball courts and fields for football, soccer, ultimate, etc. Food and drinks will be provided. All students, please note that this is not a school sponsored event, but rather just a senior social.  The address is 655 N. East End Rd. Strawberry Plains, TN 37871.   If you are planning on going, please fill out the google doc below.   https://goo.gl/forms/sEsjZFjfVUFfkVxC3

·      Film Festival Call for Entries:  Entries are now open for the first annual L&N STEM Academy Film Festival! We are accepting entries for all films made by STEM Academy students from ANY year that you were enrolled here (graduates included). The film or films that you choose to submit can be anything ranging from a journalism piece to a short film to a documentary and more. If your film is outside the scope of the categories listed on the submission form, please list it under the “other” category.

You may submit any amount of films that you choose. Your submissions will then be juried by a panel of judges made up of your peers and teachers. If selected to show at the festival, your film will automatically be nominated for our selection of awards that will be announced during the festival. The due date for entries is May 5th. The festival will be held on May 18th in the commons immediately following the spring play on the plaza (7 PM).  Submission Link:

·      Big shout out to Jaylen Foster , who was named MVP of field events at the Blue Ridge Classic track meet last weekend in Asheville, NC!  There were over 100 teams competing from around our region.  We also had several school and individual records set at this meet!!

·      All students, this week and next, stop by the Media Center between 12:45 and 1:40 to hear our Senior Out of School Experience students talk about their experiences this year. Student will be delivering their SOSE Capstone Presentations for the next two weeks, and you're invited. You may come anytime during the second and third lunch, but please enter quietly, close the door behind you, and find a seat so you don't interrupt an ongoing presentation.

·      What are you having for dinner TONIGHT...?   Please help our L&N STEM Academy TSA Chapter by eating at the Fountain City Chipotle (4829 N. Broadway) and showing them the attached flyer or telling them your supporting our TSA. Chipotle will give our chapter 50% of the proceeds if you tell them you're supporting us!

·      A huge congratulations to the L&N STEMpunks FIRST Robotics team! They won the Imagery Award at the Houston World Championships this past weekend, in the Galileo-Roebling Division, over 130 plus teams. Across all six divisions, there were more than 400 teams with over 28,000 participants were in attendance at the Houston Championships, from all over the world. Way to represent on an international scale, STEMpunks!! Other East TN FRC teams in attendance at Houston this past week included: Secret City Wildbots (of Oak Ridge High School), HVA RoHAWKtics (of Hardin Valley Academy), Flagship (of Farragut High School), and Team FTW (of South Doyle High School).

·      Attention Seniors and Senior Parents!  The PTSA is sponsoring an interfaith baccalaureate service for graduating seniors and their families. This year's service will be held on Sunday, May 7, at 3pm at Immaculate Conception Church located at 414 West Vine Street.  The service is free of charge and promises to provide an uplifting ceremony for all religious backgrounds as we celebrate our graduates.  Students are asked to wear their graduation cap and gown.  Honors collars and club sashes typically worn with the gowns during graduation will not be worn during this service.

·      The L&N Stem Academy staff and faculty will be honoring the 2017 graduates and their families at their annual senior reception.  This year's reception will be held at the school on Sunday, May 7 at 4pm.  All seniors and their families are encouraged to attend.

·      Show your school spirit by for voting for our school in the School Spirit Contest.  The school with the most votes wins $2500. Tell your family and friends to vote, too! http://www.knoxnews.com/search/school%20spirit%20challenge/
