From
Score-TN: L&N student Josh Witt won
this contest as a video entry last year.
Students know first-hand that their teachers are working hard to prepare
them for success after high school with learning they will use in the real
world, whether going to college or career. To help others understand how this
work is changing lives, SCORE is inviting Tennessee public school students to
submit an original essay, song, poem, or video that addresses the following:
• Grades 9-12: Give a real world example of how you
are using knowledge and skills you’ve learned in your math or English classes.
To
get you started, here are a few examples. Write a song to explain how learning
about the different types of clouds can help you predict the weather. Create a
video showing how your algebra skills help you split a bill in a restaurant.
Please don’t feel that you are limited to these ideas! SCORE values creativity
and originality, so we encourage you to think outside the box when crafting
your entries.
The
deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Central on Monday, September 15, 2014.
Please note, students must work singly on their entries and we cannot accept
team submissions. Read more about how to prepare
and submit your entry.
After
semifinalists are selected, a poll on SCORE’s Facebook page will determine
the finalists in each category. Finalists will be interviewed before the
winners are selected. Follow the hashtags #SCOREprize and #TNrttc on Twitter
and Facebook to keep up with the excitement.
Winners
will be awarded a $250 college scholarship and will share their work at the
SCORE Prize event on Monday, October 27, in Nashville. Fellow students,
educators from across Tennessee, and special guest performer Dustin Lynch will
all be present at the event.
Students
Rise to the Challenge is a way for Tennessee to hear from those who are most
affected by the work to raise academic achievement: our students. Start working
on your entry today!
Quote of the day
from Will Smith:
Forget all the reasons why it won’t work
and believe the one reason why it will.
