GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Tuesday, November 29, 2016 – “L”
day
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!
School Ops:
· Students – thank you for your cooperation before
we had our long Thanksgiving weekend regarding restricted areas for Digital Labs. The campus has been much cleaner. We are lifting the restriction – but
remember, this means during Digital Lab you can ONLY be in the Commons, Media
Center, Verandah, or on the Plaza. Be
mindful of keeping all areas clean!
·
Regarding Digital Labs – your ability to come in
late/check out is now updated based on your grades as of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday,
Nov 22. Remember, if you had any grade
in any class below a “C” (74% or lower average) – even if you have parent
permission – you will be counted absent if you do not sign in for Digital Lab
every period you are scheduled! Use the
time wisely – get caught up on work! Ask
for a peer tutor in math, science, Latin, or English. Own the responsibility for this freedom!
· Thank you so much to all of those who
participated in Operation Christmas Child this year! We had a very successful
Sophomore Service Project collecting 55 boxes school wide thanks to your
generosity! Congratulations to Mrs. Griggs’s advisory who will be celebrating
with donuts on Friday for winning the sophomore contest with 9 boxes! We are
proud to be a part of the 100,124 shoeboxes collected in the Knoxville area.
Once again we are so excited for the great turn-out and appreciate all of those
who took the time to participate in any way.
· On Monday, December 12th, we have an
opportunity for a small group to visit Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Lunch will be served on site with a special guest speaker discussing
careers at the intersection of the Classics, Journalism, and STEM. If you
are interested in touring the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (3D
Printing), the Spallation Neutron Source, and the High Flux Isotope
Reactor, please complete this form: https://goo.gl/forms/UGyPufN64vJ4VCCy1. If you have any questions, please email luke.bell@knoxschools.org.
Community
& Guidance Ops:
· From your counselors: Sometimes it’s just not possible to sort
through tough times alone. Problems can build up and you may lose sleep
or find it hard to concentrate on your school work. When you need to talk
to someone, your school counselor can be a great place to start.
School counselors are trained to take your problem
seriously, listen, and help — it doesn’t have to be just about school stuff.
A counselor can help you deal with the sadness of when someone has died
as well as advise you on taking the right classes to get into your dream
college.
Please
remember to first check in with your teacher before going to the school
counseling office if you are having an emergency. If you would like to
have a meeting about a non-urgent matter, email your school counselor to set up
a time that works for both of you. Know that you always have a safe place
to talk, draw, or just have someone sit quietly near you while you process on
your own.
