School Ops:
·      Sophomores – don’t forget you are all expected at a meeting with Josten’s in the Commons from 10:20 – 10:50 this morning.  Digital lab students will be in the Library, verandah, or room 104.  No money is needed for this meeting – come find out about class rings and much more to commemorate your graduation milestone.

·      Seniors – you have a meeting with Josten’s from 11:05 – 11:35 this morning to learn about ordering senior supplies.  Will be in the Commons.  Digital lab will be in the library, verandah, or room 104. No money needed.  Have someone pick up a packet for you if you have dual enrollment that period.

·      Are you a junior or senior who has a passion for education? Need something to do on Mondays? Join The STEM Connection! Volunteers will work as teacher's aides at Ritta Elementary School to gain valuable work experience and service hours. There will be an interest meeting on Thursday, September 20th in the Stem Space (rm D210) from 4:30-5:30. For more information, please email s754151@student.knoxschools.org. Minimum 3.5 GPA required.

·      Congratulations to the following officers elected to represent the Class of 2022 on our SGA Board.  All candidates did a great job with creative campaigns and we’re thrilled with the level of participation by the freshmen class in voting!  Being involved is a great way to get the most out of your high school experience (and life!).  Shout out to the newly-elected: President - Lydia Smith; Vice President of Events - Madison Turner;  Vice President of Communications - Liz Moody; and Vice President of Fundraising - Cristine Chen 

·      Teens for Christ -  Monday morning @ 8:50 in room D113. 
All are welcome!

·      Dive In!  Gryphon Swim & Dive Team starts practice this week - Come give it a try! We have a 2 week trial period- no cuts for swim team.  Practices are Monday, Tuesday & Thursday  6:45 am - 8:00 am at the Student Aquatic Center at UT (must have physical and paperwork to participate).  Questions or more information contact Dr. Bretscher 

·      Students – heads up.  We’ve updated Digital Lab rosters based on grades that were published on Friday.  Remember it counts as an absence if you have any grade lower than a “C” and don’t sign in and work in the Commons or Verandah during your assigned lab.  Use your time wisely and get those grades back up!

·      Are you interested in being on the Gryphon climbing league? Tomorrow (Saturday, Sept 15) is the informational meeting about the Interscholastic Climbing League at Onsight Rock Gym!  Come out to Onsight Rock Gym at 5335 Western Ave anytime between 11am-1pm for free climbing and information about the league. Mrs. Elliott will be there to find out how the Gryphons can have their first climbing team. If you can't make it, but are still interested, look for information about the Gryphon Climbing League in the near future!

·    Congratulations to the following students for being accepted into the Knoxville Youth Symphony Orchestra:  Connor McGinley (Violin, KSYO), Campbell Maben (Violin, KSYO), Maddie Maben (Cello, KSYO) Kailey Bostick (Cello, Sinfonia), and Kieran Maben (Double Bass, KSYO)!  Congratulations also to Anastasia Slisher (Oboe) and Marcus Lee (Bassoon) for their great auditions!

·      Freshman and Sophomores, if you need help catching up on some school work, drop by the STEM space Wednesday mornings at 8:15 to meet with students in the National Honors Society who can help you out! We'll have students representing each subject, even classes like Latin and AP Human Geography!

·      Don’t forget the Book Nook is open!   Come to the small hallway off the Commons where the Bookstore is located – it now shares the space with the coffee shop we call “The Book Nook”.   Still looking for a worker for N2. ·      Students – want to get experience on a political campaign from the inside?!  Opportunities open for interns (unpaid) to work on a US Congressional campaign from now till election day, Nov 6.  Contact s1011616@student.knoxschools.org for more information.


·        Applications are now being accepted from junior or senior high school students to be a participant in the United States Senate Youth Program.  Two Tennessee delegates will participate in an annual Washington Week in March which includes a variety of events that promote a unique understanding of the structure of our national government. The Hearst Foundation also offers selected state finalists a $10,000 undergraduate scholarship. The student application and instructions for applying are available here. Applications must be submitted no later than Oct. 29.
