8-13-18 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Monday, August 13, 2018 – M-day
Early Release Schedule
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·       This is our first Mastery Monday of the year. Remember we will be following M-day schedule (below). You will not meet in Advisory today after 2nd period. You will go straight to 3rd block and will eat with that class – schedule will be sent in separate email for your reference.  Don’t forget – we dismiss at 3:30.  Buses run at 4:30.  If you don’t have a way home or off-campus at 3:30 you must report to the Commons for the hour.

·       STEM Bowling team tryouts are this Thursday, August 16 at 5 p.m.  Meet at Fountain Lanes at 3315 N Broadway.  Games are $1.10 and shoes are $4.00.  Be prepared to bowl a couple of games.  No experience necessary for tryout.   Please see Mr. Parker in D112 if you have any questions.

·       Venturing is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females aged 14-21.  It is operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events.  Venturing is youth-led and youth-inspired.  If interested, check out this link https://www.scouting.org/programs/venturing/  Paper brochures are also in the office.

·       New students who still need a device. We will be contacting you through your Advisory class to arrange delivery.

·       Students thank you for your patience as we continue to work through settling schedules.  We are still balancing class sizes, rooms, seniors with graduation requirements to meet, and dual enrollment conflicts.  Please know we will work to address conflicts but we will not change schedules because a student changed his/her mind or just has a different preference at this time. Be sure to check your schedule on Aspen every day for the next few days for any class or room changes.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      The ACT Senior Retake Opportunity is Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at school.  All seniors may take the ACT for free on this date, whether or not they have previously tested.  All seniors are REQUIRED to complete the form linked below no later than Tuesday, August 21st  in order to register for or decline this opportunity.  The form contains further information.  Reminder: Taking the ACT is a graduation requirement in the state of Tennessee.  All seniors are encouraged to take the ACT more than once as research demonstrates a 1-3 point increase in scores between the first and second attempt and further increases in subsequent tests.

Quote of the day from Herm Albright:

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
