School Ops:
·      Are you interested in building robots, writing code, graphic and physical design, business, or social media? The L&N STEMpunks Robotics team has a place for you! Come to the interest meeting TODAY (August 21st) from 5:30-7:00 in the commons to learn more about the team, find out how to join, and participate in some exciting activities each of our departments have planned for you! Be sure to bring your parents along, because we’ll have plenty of information for them as well!

·      Do you love your school and being involved? Are you interested in serving our community and bringing unity to the whole school through different events? Come to the SGA interest meeting in D222 today! There will be a meeting every lunch, so come during your lunch. Be ready to receive your application. 

·      Yearbooks for the 2018-19 school year are officially on sale! You can get yours for $60 ($50 for seniors!) until September 14th. After that, the price WILL go up,so make sure to order yours ASAP from jostensyearbooks.com! Also, follow @STEMYB on Twitter today to keep up with all yearbook news and updates!

·      Students are reminded that eating lunch on the plaza is a privilege.  Following third lunch in particular on Friday there was garbage left on and around tables.  This is your only warning – clean up after yourself, throw garbage away in a proper receptacle.  Help police your friends.  Failure to do so will result in all food being restricted to the cafeteria and verandah only.

·      Teens for Christ meets every Monday @ 8:50 in room D113.  All are welcome!

·      KCS and Partners in Education will present the 2nd Annual Hike for Schools on Saturday, September 29.  Join us at Third Creek Greenway and enjoy a hike while giving back to your school!  Food trucks will be there and donate 10% of their sales back to schools!  Park and sign in at West High School.  For more information and register online, got to knoxschools.org/hike.  Your school will receive $5 of each $10 registration!

·       Venturing is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females aged 14-21.  It is operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events.  Venturing is youth-led and youth-inspired.  If interested, check out this link https://www.scouting.org/programs/venturing/  Paper brochures are also in the office.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      The ACT Senior Retake Opportunity is Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at school.  All seniors may take the ACT for free on this date, whether or not they have previously tested.  All seniors are REQUIRED to complete the form linked below no later than Tuesday, August 21st  in order to register for or decline this opportunity.  The form contains further information.  Reminder: Taking the ACT is a graduation requirement in the state of Tennessee.  All seniors are encouraged to take the ACT more than once as research demonstrates a 1-3 point increase in scores between the first and second attempt and further increases in subsequent tests.
