8-15-18 Student Mission Briefing

School Ops:
·      Schedules are just about settled.  Thank you for your patience as we clean up rosters and tweak rooms to better accommodate class sizes. Check your schedule on Aspen daily for changes! Here are the room changes for N3 beginning today:
o   Arthur’s Hon Alg 2 is moving to room 207
o   Wang’s Chinese 3 is moving to room 210
o   Waxmonsky’s Statistics is moving to room D218
o   Schultz’s Scientific Research is moving to room D222

·      Student drivers – Blackstock lot will be closed for parking the rest of this week.. KMA lower lot is an option, and we hope to have one more by the end of the day Wednesday.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation – it is inconvenient, but one of the costs of our awesome location.

·      Bus riders of Bus 124 (160) in the afternoon.  Beginning Thursday, the route will be reversed.  The first stop will become the last – please have your ride picking you up adjust accordingly.

·      Plan now to come to the L&N Luau on August 17th from 6:00-9:00pm on the Plaza sponsored by SGAThis is a casual dance so feel free to dress in comfort. SGA will also be providing hot dogs and hamburgers. Follow @L&NSTEMSGA on Twitter for more details. No need to buy tickets, it is free for all – just come out for a good time being a Gryphon!. We hope to see you and all of your friends there! 

·      Congratulations to the girls golf team of Madilyn Newman, Sydney Rockwell, and Emma Patterson. They set a school record for team score in yesterdays match. Madilyn also set a new girls team best with a 1 under par 35.. Well done Lady Gryphons!

·       STEM Bowling team tryouts are this Thursday, August 16 at 5 p.m.  Meet at Fountain Lanes at 3315 N Broadway.  Games are $1.10 and shoes are $4.00.  Be prepared to bowl a couple of games.  No experience necessary for tryout.   Please see Mr. Parker in D112 if you have any questions.

·       Venturing is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females aged 14-21.  It is operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events.  Venturing is youth-led and youth-inspired.  If interested, check out this link https://www.scouting.org/programs/venturing/  Paper brochures are also in the office.

Community  & Guidance Ops:
·      The ACT Senior Retake Opportunity is Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at school.  All seniors may take the ACT for free on this date, whether or not they have previously tested.  All seniors are REQUIRED to complete the form linked below no later than Tuesday, August 21st  in order to register for or decline this opportunity.  The form contains further information.  Reminder: Taking the ACT is a graduation requirement in the state of Tennessee.  All seniors are encouraged to take the ACT more than once as research demonstrates a 1-3 point increase in scores between the first and second attempt and further increases in subsequent tests.
