School Ops:
·      Swim and Dive Interest Meeting - Thursday 8/23/18 @ 8:30 a.m. in the STEM Space D210

·      Get ready for some delicious ice cream during early release on Monday, August 27th. Kilwins generously donated ice cream to be sold for only $3 (cash only). This is the Sophomore Class Fundraiser for the year. Grab a tasty cold treat and help the Sophomore Class raise money for exciting events throughout the year. You can find us in the Commons and on the Plaza after 4th block!

·      If you did not attend the SGA interest meeting to receive your application, pick one up in the office. There is a separate application for freshmen next to the general application. If you are a returning member you still need to apply. Applications are due Friday, 24th by 4:30.

·      This year, we will be starting our school's first HOSA chapter. HOSA is an international student organization for those interested in healthcare. The mission of the club is to promote healthcare career opportunities and to improve the quality of healthcare delivered. For students who choose to get involved, it helps them improve upon leadership skills, properly pursue a medical career, get involved in local healthcare projects, and earn scholarships and internships.  As our chapter is just beginning this year, we ask those who are interested to join to help us make the most out of our club and to go with us to the HOSA state conference in the spring.  Be sure to mark HOSA for Wednesdays when Genius Hour sign-ups are released this week!
  • Do you love your school and being involved? Are you interested in serving our community and bringing unity to the whole school through different events? Come to the SGA interest meeting in D222 today! There will be a meeting every lunch, so come during your lunch. Be ready to receive your application.
  • Yearbooks for the 2018-19 school year are officially on sale! You can get yours for $60 ($50 for seniors!) until September 14th. After that, the price WILL go up,so make sure to order yours ASAP from jostensyearbooks.com! Also, follow @STEMYB on Twitter today to keep up with all yearbook news and updates!
  • Students are reminded that eating lunch on the plaza is a privilege. Following third lunch in particular on Friday there was garbage left on and around tables.  This is your only warning – clean up after yourself, throw garbage away in a proper receptacle.  Help police your friends.  Failure to do so will result in all food being restricted to the cafeteria and verandah only.

  • KCS and Partners in Education will present the 2nd Annual Hike for Schools on Saturday, September 29.  Join us at Third Creek Greenway and enjoy a hike while giving back to your school!  Food trucks will be there and donate 10% of their sales back to schools! Park and sign in at West High School.  For more information and register online, got to knoxschools.org/hike.  Your school will receive $5 of each $10 registration!

·       Venturing is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females aged 14-21.  It is operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events.  Venturing is youth-led and youth-inspired.  If interested, check out this link https://www.scouting.org/programs/venturing/  Paper brochures are also in the office.
