8-27-18 Student Mission Briefing

GRYPHON MISSION BRIEFING
For Monday, August 27, 2018 – M-day
EARLY RELEASE SCHEDULE
School Mission – Boundless STEM: Learning & Leading
L&N Student Mission – #Own it!

School Ops:
·      Students – pass on to your parents or be aware if you drive – expect lane closures and altered traffic patterns this Tuesday – Friday for the Honda Wing Ding.  A convention that will bring 7-8,000 Honda Gold Wing motorcycles to Worlds Fair Park.  Watch and listen for directions and practice flexibility!

·      Teens for Christ will meet Monday morning at 8:50 in D113.  All are welcome!

·      Today is yearbook photo day – all students will go to your regularly scheduled classes but follow the table below to have your picture made at the time designated for your Advisory (listed by teacher).  When it is your time, report to the STEM space in the Depot building and bring your envelope you received last week with you.  Lost it or forgot it?  We’ll have blanks.  All students must have their pictures made even if you don’t purchase – they are used for yearbook and student IDs (which will be available soon).

·      All grades – do you like playing Monopoly?  Or Life?  Those are board games, but you can get experience in the STEM field of banking (think about it, math, computer programming around security . . .) while you’re here at the L&N by working at our school satellite office of Y-12 Federal Credit Union.  This is an honest-to-goodness bank with lots of opportunities as you serve your classmates and L&N staff to assist with their banking needs.  Application is attached – open to all grades.  Return to Mr. Griffin before end of Genius Hour next Wednesday, 8/29.  Interviews will be Friday during Genius Hour.

·      The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at our school is looking for one student from each grade level to represent their peers at our monthly meetings. We're looking for reliable L&N STEM Academy students who want to be more involved in our school and who are willing to help support PTSA in decision making and upcoming events and this is a great leadership role for your high school resume.
Here's what you need to know:
o   PTSA meets the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Can you meet at this time on Tuesdays?
o   PTSA will need your help to put on PTSA events. Will you make yourself available to help?
o   PTSA will ask for your opinion on issues and events that impact your fellow students. Will you feel comfortable making your opinions known?
If you're interested and you answered yes to all of these questions, please click on this link to apply for the position for your grade.  You'll be notified by Friday, August 31st if you've been selected.

·      Hey Gryphons! Ultimate Frisbee has begun, however it is not too late to join the team! Practice is every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at World’s Fair Park from 5:00-6:30. Bring a white shirt, dark shirt, water, and running shoes. Email our coach Ted Parker at lparker4@vols.utk.edu if you have any questions.
